SGN Emergency works : Buckland Bends
With the initial three week period due to finish on Monday 8th December, the contractors working for Southern Gas Networks (SGN) are still working on the A25 at Buckland Bends to replace part of the gas network.
Following previous gas leaks in the area and due to the age and condition of the pipe, SGN made the decision to replace a section of gas main “to avoid further disruptions as the cold weather approaches”.
To do this safely, two-way traffic lights will remain in place along the road while SGN contractors work. To help keep traffic flowing, SGN has committed to have an operative on site from 7am – 7pm Monday to Saturday.
SGN continues to say the work is being completed as quickly and as safely as they can, but, while they initially hoped, barring any unforeseen circumstances, to complete the work within 2-3 weeks SCC Highways has granted a two week extension to the licence which now allows the traffic lights to remain in place until Friday 19th December 2025.
The work undertaken in Old Road October/November was undertaken to ensure SGN could provide continuity of gas supply to all customers whilst the work is completed at Buckland Bends.
SGN has expressed its thanks to residents and road users for their patience and understanding while they carry out this essential work which they say will ensure SGN can continue to provide a safe and reliable supply to Buckland.

Let us hope the contractors make good progress, sufficient to enable the work to be completed and the traffic lights removed a little sooner than 19th December 2025
