A25 Reigate Road : Road Safety Improvements

The Surrey County Council (SCC) Road Safety team, part of SCC Highways, is working on delivery of a programme of “safety improvements” along the stretch of the A25 Reigate Road between the High Street in Reigate and the Cockerel roundabout in Dorking.

Surrey Highways secured funding from the UK Government Department for Transport towards the cost of the programme. A limited amount of information about the 16 schemes which make up this programme of safety improvements, is published on the SCC website.  You are encouraged to take a few moments to read the descriptions under each of the scheme headings.

Schemes 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 16 have already been delivered. SCC Highways hopes to implement schemes 3, 4, 7 and 9 during the 25/26 financial year.

Update : 7th February 2026 : The SCC Road Safety Team are hoping the weather gods will look kindly on their plans to undertake amend road markings work intended to improve road safety during overnight closures planned to commence later this month.

A two week window commencing Monday 23rd February has been identified and a licence has been granted to allow the contractors to close the A25 to through traffic between 8pm and 6am to facilitate the work. This timeline remains weather dependant.

Brief detail of the work is included on the Surrey Roadworks Roadmap. Additional guidance including a draft copy of a letter that will be hand delivered to residents and businesses immediately alongside the A25 has been shared via Buckland’s village email group. The work will be completed in blocks, the 32 bus will continue to operate to an unchanged timetable and access will be maintained for local residents and businesses.

The SCC Road Safety Team has advised the work will consist of:

The SCC Road Safety Team still hope to be able to launch consultations on schemes 1, 2 and 5 before the end of March 2026. If you travel between Dorking and Reigate; whether on foot, or on two or more wheels you will be impacted by the changes so you are encouraged to keep abreast of the plans, and, if you have any thoughts on schemes one, two and five, which relate to safety improvements in Dorking (1 and 2) and at the Brockham Lane Junction (5), make a note in readiness for the promised consultations, the timing of which have yet to be announced.

Delivery of Scheme 15 will remain dependant upon sufficient funding being available upon completion of schemes 1-14 and 16.

If, having read the information on the SCC website you have any comments and/or concerns relating to any of the other schemes or feel more details need to be provided; as Surrey Highways does not appear to be making any commitment to consult on these schemes, please share your comments and/or concerns and any requests for more information to both SCC Cllr Helyn Clack and Buckland Parish Council.
