Village Pond & Green

In the centre of Buckland is ‘Buckland Village Green’, a registered village green that includes a pond.  Buckland Parish Council (“Council”) maintains the open grass areas and coordinates the volunteer effort to help maintain the Pond and Green as an area for recreation for the benefit of people living locally.

Council adopted a 5 year plan covering the management of Buckland Village Pond and Green for the period 2022-2027 on 10th January 2022. Council reviews actions listed within the 2022 Plan each year to inform the agreed tasks to be undertaken at annual volunteer events and a post event review is taken into account during the Budget Process. A copy of the 2022 Plan can be obtained by contacting the Parish Clerk.

Volunteer events, led by Reigate Area Conservation Volunteers, supplemented by temporary members recruited from the village, and, under the leadership of Simon Elson, were last held during the late summer/early autumn of 2024.

Pond clearance activity was paused last year, reflecting concern about the difficulty of ensuring actions taken remain consistent with guidance previously received from Natural England and will benefit the habitat, notwithstandng the impact of the extended period of hot weather on the very dry pond. We are very fortunate to have received consistent guidance and leadership from Reigate Area Conservation Volunteers and, currently, the pause continues
