New flagpole installed on Buckland Village Green
Thanks to a generous donation from the Betchworth and Buckland Society, the parish council has been able to replace the flagpole on the village green.

While the previous flagpole had certainly served us well for over twenty years the time had come to replace the flagpole with a modern composite material and a custom base which will allow it to be more easily maintained.
At the recent Annual Parish Meeting, our Chair took the opportunity to express thanks to the Betchworth and Buckland Society for funding the purchase of the new flagpole, to the Buckland Estate Team who prepared the “perfectly sized” hole to accommodate the baseplate and to Alan Brindley and Martin Boyce who have since installed the base plate fixing and the flagpole.
The aim was to be able to fly the Union flag to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of VE Day. Thanks to the effort of our local volunteers it has been possible to hoist the Union flag in time for Easter Sunday.
All we need now is for the sun to shine with a gentle breeze to allow budding photographers to capture the flag flying without any vehicles or people in the background. Please submit your photos of either the Union flag or St George’s flag to our webmaster.
